President’s Report – October 2013

Rio de Janeiro

Theme: Museums (Memory + Creativity) = Social Change

The president travelled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the triennial conference. Over 2,000 delegates made their way to the event in order to take part in various committee discussions and meetings of the Advisory Committee. Canadian representatives in attendance included Marie-Claude Larouche, Ann Davies, Claude Faubert and John McAvity.

A new board of directors was elected, while President Hans-Martin accepted a second and final three-year term.

Some news:

  • The Director General position is open, and all members of the ICOM family around the world are invited to apply.
  • Various resolutions were approved in order to grant the Advisory Committee greater power when it comes to making major changes and decisions, such as selecting people for general management positions.
  • The President of ICOM International intends to play an active role in the organization since he has more time available following his retirement.

For more details about the Rio de Janeiro conference, please consult the general ICOM International website.

In collaboration with the CECA committee, the President gave a presentation entitled “Immersion as a Means of Social Changes.” Incidentally, a project is in the works to publish this text, along with those of other speakers related to the education committee (CECA) and new technologies committee (AVICOM).
